fixedmoviedb API
A TMDB v3-compatible API. If your client works with themoviedb.org, it works here — just change the base URL and the key.
Base URL
https://api.fixedmoviedb.org/3
Authentication
Both TMDB authentication styles are accepted. API tokens are issued per user account (invite-only) on fixedmoviedb.org → Profile.
# v3 style — query parameter GET /3/movie/550?api_key=YOUR_TOKEN # v4 style — bearer header GET /3/movie/550 Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN
Rate limit: 40 requests/second per token. Exceeding it returns HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header. Errors use the TMDB envelope (status_code, status_message).
Endpoints
| Endpoint | Notes |
|---|---|
GET /3/configuration | Image base URL and size lists (sizes match TMDB) |
GET /3/configuration/languagesGET /3/configuration/countries | Reference data |
GET /3/movie/{id} | append_to_response: credits, images, translations, release_dates, external_ids, alternative_titles, keywords, videos |
GET /3/tv/{id} | appends incl. aggregate_credits, content_ratings, episode_groups |
GET /3/tv/{id}/season/{n}GET /3/tv/{id}/season/{n}/episode/{e} | Episode appends: credits, images, translations, external_ids |
GET /3/person/{id} | appends: images, external_ids, translations, movie_credits, tv_credits, combined_credits |
GET /3/collection/{id} | |
GET /3/search/movie|tv|person|multi | query parameter; local catalogue first, TMDB pass-through when empty |
GET /3/find/{external_id} | external_source=imdb_id (also tvdb_id, wikidata_id, …); unknown IMDb IDs are imported read-through |
GET /3/genre/movie/listGET /3/genre/tv/list | Merged genre list (see deviations) |
Language parameter
?language=de-DE localizes text fields down to episode level. Stored languages are German, English and each title's original language; anything else falls back to English, then the original.
Country and media releases (FixedMovieDb extension)
Movie release_dates and each episode in season/episode responses use release_dates.results, grouped by country.
The TMDB type (1–6) is preserved. Extra fields medium, platform, source_url and manual
distinguish VHS, DVD, Blu-ray/UHD and other physical formats, streaming/digital purchase/rental/download, and free/pay TV.
These publication events do not change the base release_date or air_date. Unknown physical/digital formats are not guessed.
Images
Image paths work exactly like TMDB: {base_url}{size}{file_path}. The base URL comes from /3/configuration and points to this catalogue's own permanent image store:

How this differs from TMDB
- Frozen catalogue: data is captured from TMDB once and then curated here. It only changes through explicit editorial action — not automatically.
- Custom entries: IDs ≥ 2,000,000,000 are titles and people that exist only in this catalogue. TMDB IDs below that range are identical to TMDB's.
- Series conversions: a series that was editorially converted into films returns 404 under
/3/tv/{id}; the resulting films are regular movie entries. - Whitelisted locales: translations only in de/en/original; release dates and certifications only for DE, AT, CH, US, GB plus the title's origin countries;
imageslists only files actually served here. - Locale-specific episodes: season episode lists can differ by
language— an editorially added regional episode (e.g. a German two-parter split from one original double episode) replaces the base episode of the same number or extends the season, sode-DEmay list more episodes thanen-US. Response shapes stay TMDB-identical. - Not implemented: watch/providers, recommendations, similar, reviews, trending, changes, account and list endpoints.
- Genre lists are merged (movie and TV return the same list) and English-only. Season objects have no
_id/networksfields. German voice-actor credits are a local extension and do not appear in/3responses.
